World’s biggest online retailer, Amazon has arrived in India. Amazon launched the online marketplace Amazon.in on June 5th, 2013. India marks the tenth Amazon marketplace launch in the world. The marketplace currently sells books, movies and TV shows. But soon, it will start selling mobiles, cameras and more. Until now, Amazon had its footprint in India through the online shopping service “Junglee.com” which enables customers to find and compare products from different online retailers.
Amazon is a huge name in the e-commerce space, and will compete in India with the likes of Flipkart, eBay and other players. Flipkart has recently started the marketplace model, while eBay was originally there. Payment options, delivery and product return have been the three major parameters for a successful e-commerce operations in India. It will be interesting to know how Amazon has planned it for India. Amazon India will currently offering over 7 million print books and 12,000 Movie and TV shows/titles in English and Hindi. Mobile phones and cameras will be added in the coming weeks.

How Amazon.in Works
Amazon India is a marketplace, which means it is a managed platform for consumers to buy products from third-party sellers. For most products you will find multiple sellers, offering the product at different price points. Sellers tie up with Amazon to use their suite of services like “Selling on Amazon” and “Fulfillment by Amazon”.
“Fullfillment by Amazon (FBA)”, is the service where Amazon plays an important role. FBA helps the sellers use Amazon’s world-class services for fulfilling an order. Amazon will provide services like customer service, shipping, packaging, etc. All such products are dispatched from Amazon’s own Fulfillment Centers. When buying a product on Amazon India, check if the listing has the “Amazon Fulfilled” icon besides the price. It’s a better and more reliable option to buy through FBA. However, not all sellers use this service.
Amazon is offering Cash on Delivery, debit card, credit card and net banking payment option in India.
